Dushanbe set for a huge 2026 World Judo Masters showdown

Dushanbe will host the 2026 World Judo Masters from 18 to 20 December 2026. The announcement from the International Judo Federation places Tajikistan at the heart of one of the most selective and high-level events in world judo.
The appeal of the tournament is easy to understand. Only the top 36 ranked judoka in each weight category are invited, and there is no limit per nation. That creates a rare kind of draw where elite athletes are forced to face elite athletes from the very first rounds.
Within the IJF World Judo Tour, the Masters stands among the biggest stages of the sport. It sits alongside major events such as the World Championships, Grand Slams and Grand Prix, but its invitation-only format gives it a different intensity. There is no easy path here.
The road to LA28 will feel even sharper in Dushanbe.
The sporting value of this edition is especially high because it will count toward qualification for the LA28 Olympic Games. Ranking points can have a major impact on the global order, with 1,800 points for gold, 1,260 for silver and 900 for bronze. That makes every contest matter far beyond one weekend.
For European judoka, this is another significant opening on a packed calendar. European athletes have maintained a strong presence across the IJF World Tour, and the Masters offers another chance to prove that level against the toughest possible field. In an event built around direct clashes between the best, strong European performances could once again shape the story.
Dushanbe now becomes more than a host city announcement. It becomes a key destination for athletes chasing momentum, status and Olympic progress. Further event details are expected later.
