Majdov and Andoni Secure -90 kg Bronze Medals in Lausanne

Nemanja Majdov and Egor Andoni delivered two European bronze medals in the men’s -90 kg competition at the Lausanne Grand Slam. As the race towards LA28 gathers momentum, the category brought high-level pressure from the opening medal contests.

Former world champion Majdov, representing Serbia, met Adam Kopecky of the Czech Republic in the first bronze-medal contest. Majdov’s experience and tactical control made the difference as he steadily increased the pressure on his opponent.

Kopecky received three penalties, with the final Shido ending the contest by hansoku-make. The Serbian’s composed performance put him on the podium and gave Europe an early reason to celebrate during the final day’s heavyweight categories.

Majdov’s patient pressure turned a tight bronze contest in his favour.

Russia’s Egor Andoni added another European medal in the second bronze contest against France’s Olympic bronze medallist Maxime-Gael Ngayap Hambou. Their contest continued into golden score, but the decisive moment came shortly afterwards.

Andoni found an opening for Ko-soto-gake and brought Ngayap Hambou down for Yuko. The score secured the bronze medal and completed a strong -90 kg medal round for European athletes.

The final, however, was an all-Uzbekistan contest between Nurbek Murtozoev and Umar Bozorov. Bozorov emerged with the Lausanne Grand Slam title, while Majdov and Andoni ensured Europe was represented twice on the podium.

Two European bronzes showed the depth of the -90 kg field in Lausanne.
