Nikoloz Sherazadishvili — from Tbilisi to Spain's judo throne

Nikoloz Sherazadishvili reached 30 with a résumé few judoka can match: multiple world titles, European medals and prominent status in Spanish sport. His career traces a path between his Georgian roots and a Spanish sporting identity.
He started judo in Tbilisi at age eight and moved to Spain with his family in 2010. After receiving Spanish citizenship in 2014 he began competing for Spain, taking bronze at the European Open in Madrid that year. The switch of nation proved decisive for his international rise.
A defining moment came after the death of his father Zakaria in 2017. In Baku a year later Sherazadishvili won the world title at -90kg and dedicated that triumph to his father. He reinforced his standing by claiming a second world crown in Budapest in 2021.
Moving up to -100kg has not dimmed his ambition: he added world bronze in Abu Dhabi in 2024 and continued to collect major results on the IJF World Tour, including Grand Slam and Grand Prix podiums. Those performances highlight his longevity and ability to adapt to a heavier weight.
As one of Spain’s leading judoka, Sherazadishvili has built a career that bridges two countries while remaining firmly among Europe’s top fighters.
