Tamara Vučić Steps Into an Inclusion Role in Judo

Tamara Vučić has been appointed Ambassador of the European Judo Union’s Adapted Judo Programme. The First Lady of Serbia from 2017 to 2026 will support the EJU’s work to make Judo more inclusive and accessible.

The ambassadorial role focuses on raising awareness of adapted Judo, confronting misconceptions and encouraging a better understanding of inclusive sporting communities. For the EJU, the appointment underlines its stated commitment to equal opportunities within the sport.

Vučić said she was honoured to support people whose determination helps them pursue their goals despite obstacles. She described that strength as inspiring and said she hopes to encourage others through her involvement in the programme.

Her message also looked beyond the tatami. Vučić highlighted the effect adapted Judo can have on participants, their families and their wider communities, stressing the need for spaces where differences are understood and welcomed.

Adapted Judo aims to ensure nobody is left at the side of the tatami because they are different.

For Vučić, inclusion should be a standard across every part of life. In a Judo setting, that means building a community where participation is possible for everyone, rather than allowing barriers to decide who gets to take part.

The EJU welcomed Vučić to the adapted Judo community and said it looks forward to working with her to promote inclusion through Judo’s values. Her appointment brings added attention to a programme centred on participation, understanding and equal opportunity.
